WoW Tailoring - Maximizing the use of Cloth — Games & Entertainment Blog

Tailoring is one of the crafting professions in WoW. This profession offers many benefits to those players who decide to learn it and is also fairly easy for leveling.

What can I craft with the Tailoring profession?

Tailoring will offer you a possibility to make a wide range of cloth armor items, gear sets, bags, cloaks, bags for the use in other professions, Embroideries, Spellthreads and a Magnificent Flying Carpet, a unique, Tailors-only flying mount.

Various specializations will enable you to craft you a special piece of cloth - one piece every 4 days, Spellweave, Moonshroud or Ebonweave. These types of cloth are used to craft nice sets of pre-raiding epic gear for healers and dps casters. Unless you are planning to craft some of these sets, you can sell these types of cloth on the AH for nice profit.

Tailoring benefits

As you enter Northrend, Tailoring will grant you an ability to gather more cloth. This is possible due to the Northern Cloth Scavenging which is a passive ability available only to the tailors.

By completing a ‘Northrend Dungeonmaster’ and ‘Loremaster’ achievements, you will be granted 2 new tailoring patterns for epic cloaks - Wispcloak (Northrend Dungeonmaster) and Deathchill Cloak (Loremaster).

Tailors are known for their Spellthreads. Once placed on leggings, these Spellthreads provide healers/damage dealer casters with a nice boost on their statistics. To be able to craft these Tailor needs exalted reputation with certain factions. Sapphire Spellthread which gives +50 sp and +30 stamina requires exalted reputation with Kirin Tor, while Brilliant Spellthread (+50 sp and +20spirit) requires exalted reputation with Argent Crusade. Still, the exalted reputations are only needed to Tailors who want to sell these Spellthreads. Making spellthreads for their own use will require only 2x Ethernium threads.

With the special Embroidery, Tailors are also able to enhance their cloak stats. This option is particularly useful for caster classes such as healers and dps-ers. Embroideries are ideal for any type of caster either a healer or dps. Embroidery for cloak is quite similar to enchant and therefore it is a very powerful boost.

Which classes usually take Tailoring as their main profession?

Classes who can only wear cloth are usually the ones that choose Tailoring, for example Shadow/Holy Priests, Locks and Mages. Often Resto and Balance Druids choose tailoring as a primary profession.

Which classes are advised to take Tailoring as their primary profession

In most cases Tailors choose Enchanting as their second profession. They complement each other perfectly, as dust is needed for some special types of cloth, while disenchanting of the items made from Tailoring will ensure constant abundance of enchanting materials. These materials can either be used or sold for a profit. Without Tailoring it will be hard to level up Enchanting, not to mention expensive.
