Skinning is one of the three gathering profession in the World of Warcraft. If you choose this profession as one of your primary professions you need to find a Skinning trainer in order to learn it and train it. A Skinning trainer can be found in any of the Azeroth’s capital cities and also in some of the major cities all over the world map. Click here for more: WoW Skinning Guide
This profession will allow you to gather leather, scales and hides by skinning particular types of mobs. You will not be able to skin all mobs and mostly mobs that could be skinned are beasts and dragonkin. It must be said that even some of the beasts can’t be skinned like in example the birds etc.
How to skin a certain mob?
When you grind mobs for skinning, the first thing you should to do is take the loot. As soon as a mob is looted you can move your mouse over it and if a skinning pointer appears it means that it is a mob that can be skinned. You will gain skill levels by plain skinning. If you skin mobs that are way below your skill level you will not gain points though and if they are a too high level for you, you will not even be able to skin them.
What do I need in order to skin?
Skinning doesn’t require some particular equipment. However, every skinner needs a skinning knife. You can buy skinning knives at almost any trade goods or general goods vendor.
There are also special knives for skinning that have a bonus to give you for your skill. The Skinning Knife that can be found in Blackrock Spire and the Zulian Slicer which can be found in Zul’Gurub are both knives that improve your skinning skills.
Enchanters can also help you out by Enchanting your gloves with a +5 or +10 to Skinning Enchant. For the best leveling guide click here: WoW Ultimate Guide Review
Leatherworking and Skinning
Skinning is a nice profession especially when combined with Leatherworking because Skinning can provide you with all the materials that are needed for Leatherworking. Without the Skinning products, Leatherworking will be completely impossible to skillup. Even though you can buy stacks of leather on the Auction House, it will be a lot cheaper to have Leatherworking paired with Skinning.
Leather products are not only a need for Leatherworking profession. Engineering, Tailoring and Blacksmithing all have patterns and designs which require leather.
Skinning - Profitable or not?
Skinning is definitely a profitable profession because it is so easy to gather leather. Mobs you can skin are found anywhere and you can even sell low level leathers on the Auction House. It doesn’t even really matter which level you are because you can sell each type of leather for great amounts of money.
Classes that go for Skinning
Skinning is nice for people that combine it with Leatherworking which are usually Rogues, Druids, Shamans and Hunters. A lot of Hunters have the Skinning profession because they are the best grinding characters which means that there is a lot of leather to be found as well.
Another benefit of Skinning
Since Blizzard released WoTLK Skinners gained a new passive ability called Master of Anatomy. This ability increases you critical strike rating by a certain percentage depending on your skinning level. The maximum that you can get is +40 on the critical strike rating when your Skinning is at 450 skill level. If you would like more on WoW Leveling, click here: WoW Guide
