Shaman – Hybrids with Spirit — Games & Entertainment Blog

In the World of Warcraft, Shamans are a famous class of hybrids. For quite a while Shamans as a class were available only to the Horde while Alliance had Paladins in exchange. However, this has changed since the release of the Burning Crusade and Shamans also became available to the Alliance players with the Draenei race.

Similar to Druids, Shamans can choose to become Healers, Caster dpsers or Melee dpsers. Their talent build will depend on a talent tree you choose – Enhancement, Elemental or Restoration. If you would like to build up a typical caster dps then the Elemental build is ideal for you. If your choice falls on a melee dps, than the right talent tree for you would definitely be the Enhancement tree. Same as with Elemental Shaman, Enhancement Shammy needs to have specific gear with as much agility as possible. A special ability granted to all Enhancement Shamans is the ability to summon two ghost wolves which will help a Shaman in a fight against any enemy. These wolves come in handy especially while playing PvP.

The Restoration talent build belongs to the healers. He has single target heals and also his chain heal is a very useful spell since it will heal a few targets with the lowest hp. Earth shield is another very useful spell a Shaman can put on himself, a party member or a tank who is receiving damage. The most important thing when it comes to gear for a Shaman healer is mp5 (the amount of mana regenerated per 5 seconds.

Shamans are able to wear cloth armor, leather armor and mail armor. As they are leveling they will need to wear leather but as soon as they get the ability to wear armor made from mail, they should switch. At the higher levels it is strongly suggested to wear mail since this kind of armor is a lot stronger then leather or cloth. Mail armor made for Shimmies is rich in stats and it has intellect, similar to the armor of a Hunter since Shamans are also mana consumers. Many players will tell you that Enhancement build is great for leveling. An Enhancement Shaman doesn’t need as much mana as an Elemental Shaman and therefore he will drink a lot less which of course, will speed up your leveling. Another couple talent points well spent would be in the improved ghost wolf form to enable you to instantly turn into the ghost wolf.

The popularity of Shamans among other classes comes from their skills and ability of summoning different kinds of useful totems. A Shammy has totems four different types of totems – Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The strength of his totems will depend on his build and in any case with the use of totems, a Shammy can boost his group drastically. Since there are four groups of elements, a Shaman can use one totem from each group so in total he can cast 4 different totems.

Overall the Shaman class is a great versatile class to play because you can easily switch between healing and damage dealing. Be assured that you won’t get bored while playing this class since there are so many options to choose from.
