Death Knights – WoW’s first class of heroes

Death Knights are the latest class in the World of Warcraft. With the expansion ‘Wrath of the Lich King’ from 2008 this class became available to all WoW players. In the World of Warcraft, the DKs were introduced as a “Hero” class. This doesn’t mean that this class is more powerful than other classes, it just means that it is different.

Interesting things when it comes to DKs is they attack system which is not based on mana, rage or energy but it is based on runic power. There are two runes available for all types of spells and attacks, and these runes have a cooldown which is consumed when the spell/attack is used. There are three types of paired runes available to any DK: Blood, Unholy and Frost. A DK’s talent tree is also divided into three branches: Blood, Unholy and Frost.

Death Knights wear armor made from plate, can cast spells and are also good melee dpsers. A Death Knight can fulfill the role of a damage dealer and tank in a group or raid. He can’t wear shields but he can use a one handed weapon or use two two-handed weapons.

You can only make a Death Knight if you have a level 70 character. You will start leveling a DK at level 55 which will make your journey a lot easier. Besides that, you will also receive a set of green gear, 5 bags and 30 Silver.

Your journey will start in The Ebon Hold in the Eastern Plaguelands. When you start you will be on the side of the Lich King. You will be taking direct orders from the Lich King himself during the quest chains that you should complete in the areas around the Ebon Hold. As rewards for the quests that you complete there you will receive nice blue items and talent points. Because you start at level 55 you have missed out on some talent points but you can earn these back through questing.

You will level up till about level 58 once the quest chain you are working on changes drastically. Your char will manage to escape and he/she will join the enemies of the Lich King. After this event occurs you will be able to go anywhere you like, however it is advisable to proceed to the Outlands since it will be easier for you to level up there. You will enter the Outlands with all your talent points, full blue gear and with a nice piece of lore behind you.

When it comes to primary professions a Death Knight is no different than any other class. You can of course choose any profession but there are several professions that fit a Death Knight well. Enchanting is always nice to have because of the ring enchants you can make on your own rings. Since ring enchants are only available for the Enchanter himself it is nice for any character. Jewelcrafting/Mining combination is also nice since a Jewelcrafter will be able to make gems with better stats only for himself. As you continue to progress in the game you will get better gear and you will be able to socket it more which is very nice since Jewelcrafters can make unique gems for themselves which have better stats. You can also make different kinds of Jewelry with it like necklaces, rings and trinkets. Blacksmithing could also be a good option for your DK because you will be able to craft plate gear which you can actually wear. With Blacksmithing you will be also able to create sockets for some pieces of your armor (gloves and wrists) and belt buckles which you can sell to other players and of course use them for your own belt.

The Death Knight class is a great one to play. When it comes to the down points of this class, there isn’t any just the fact that there are many players who rolled a DK. The only thing that might bother you is that almost everyone has made a DK simply because you start at level 55 and it is fairly easy to level a char from there on.
